Feline Friends is an organisation which is dedicated to meeting the needs of cats & kittens in the Tyne & Wear area.

About Us

About our organisation...

We were formed in August 2006 in response to an obvious need for a cat rescue organisation in the Sunderland area.

We also trap and neuter feral cats in the Sunderland area.

We were recently awarded a grant from Hendon Local Community to help towards our work with stray and abandoned cats.

We have recently achieved charity status.

Do do not have our own rescue shelter at present and have various fosterers who look after our cats in their own homes.

We have recently teamed up with two other animal rescue organisations to open a charity shop in South Shields (see News)

Our newly formed commitee consists of....

        Colin Galley - Director

        Gillian Connor - Treasurer

        Madeline Kay - Secretary

        Valerie Baty - Secretary

Paul Wappat of Smooth Radio North East is now our patron. He adopted a cat from us and was happy to join our organisation in June 2008.

PAUL WAPPAT

I’ve been a cat person all my life, I think it’s something you pick up from your parents,.  My Mam (Brenda) has always had cats, and she’d go through fads.  We had runs of Burmese, seal-point Persians and  even a Cornish Rex once. I couldn’t get away with a curly cat!

My first pet after leaving home was a British blue called ‘Manchi’ from his pedigree name, ‘Mornight Manchi Run’, sounds very native American doesn’t it?!  And he was the only cat that naturally brought things back to you.  Next I had Tzar, a Russian blue, who was the quietest creature you could wish to meet.

You may have noticed a common theme on the sort of cats I liked?  All blue!  Well that trend came to an end when I met my second wife Claire.  Within the first year of meeting we decided to rehome all our cats in future and not buy from breeders.  We started with Tigger, who we still have and love,  he’s the biggest tabby you will ever see, even vets are afraid when they first meet him, but he’s the softest thing in the world.

When our oldest cat, Harry ( a she, don’t ask it’s a long story) died last year, that’s we came across ‘Feline friends’.  I noticed ‘Keira’ on the website, I fell in love without meeting her.  She’s the most special cat I have ever known, and thanks to my Mam,  I’ve known a lot.  I have never come across a cat that needs so much attention,  attention that Claire and I love giving her.  I just wish she’d stop bullying big Tigger!

The whole team at ‘Feline friends’ are incredible people, they dedicate their time and sometimes their money to making abandoned and unwanted cats lives better.  Please support them in any way you can.  You don’t have to re-home an animal, although that would be nice, but a simple donation can make all the difference.
